Welcome, Meredith Hicks

Tuesday, August 26th, 2025

Regents is delighted to welcome Meredith Hicks to our faculty where she will be teaching Literature in the Logic & Rhetoric School. Ms. Hicks graduated with highest distinction from the University of Virginia with a degree in Economics and Political and Social Thought. At UVA, she was an Echols Scholar and Editor in Chief of Bearings Journal. Since graduation, Ms. Hicks has been working as a Research Assistant to both Dr. Angel Parham and the Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture.

Originally from Salem in Southwest Virginia, Ms. Hicks is looking forward to deeply exploring and sharing her love for great books with students at Regents in a context grounded in a shared faith and worldview. "My prayer is for students to enjoy and delight in the books we read," she said. "As their teacher, I hope to demonstrate to them what good reading, thinking, and enjoyment looks like."

One of Ms Hicks's most influential classes in college was Religion in Modern Fiction, taught by Jennifer Geddes because it reawakened her love for literature. "It revealed to me the ways literature can be both enjoyed and studied simultaneously," says Ms. Hicks. While she could never choose one favorite book, two that are at the top of her list are The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd which was very formative for her faith and her love of literature when she read it as a teenager, and more recently, Octavia Butler’s Kindred which she kept her up at night because she couldn't put it down!

In her free time, Ms. Hicks enjoys playing volleyball in a Charlottesville Parks & Rec Co-ed team, as well as reading, cooking, and baking.
