The 2024-25 basketball season is in the books! The Varsity Boys Team finished as District Champions with a 16-5 record, as well as third in the State, and second in the VACA North Region. The Middle School and JV Boys both made it to the final four in the region.
"Coach Good and Coach Saunders have set the foundation for our Varsity program which is always exciting," says Varsity Coach and Athletic Director Travis Johnson. "We continue to compete every year for district and regional championships and a chance at the state title."
"The biggest thing I take away from this year is the number of times other coaches, players, and fans would come up to us coaches and talk to us about the type of players we had: how they worked hard, were always fair and played with good sportsmanship. That is something that I will always remember," says Coach Johnson. "I think this group of boys will be one that is compared to many teams in the future because of the camaraderie - from the ones who were playing a lot to the ones who barely played, it didn't matter, they were a team."
Morris Hoffman won honors as First-Team for the District, Region, and Regional Tournament as well as Second Team for the All-State Tournament. Tucker Jamison won honors as MVP of the Region, and First Teams for the District and State. David Shonka won honors as Second Team for the District and First Team for the Regional Tournament. Elijah Anokye-Gyambrah and Tristan Miller won honors at the district and regional levels as well. Congratulations, boys!
The JV girls finished 3-3 on the season. "For the girls, what I was most encouraged by is that we were able to field two teams when it first looked like we wouldn't have the numbers," says Coach Johnson. "The hopes is we return with a varsity girls team next year. We also have a group of fifth graders that we're really exited about."
"This is probably the best team dynamic we've had for the JV girls," adds Head Coach and LS/RS Principal Christopher Webb. "When I've had conversations with the girls who have been on other teams, they've all agreed, this was the team with the best chemistry, most tight knit, and no drama. Everyone enjoyed being together and working hard together. Working with this group was definitely the most fun I've had."
The middle school girls were a young team who displayed tremendous effort and potential for growth. "The middle school team just tried so hard," said Coach Webb. "Even though we didn't get a win this year, they competed to win and they had a lot of winning effort. We're young and I'm excited for the growth to come."
