Volleyball Starts Season Strong with Alumni Help!

Friday, September 30th, 2022

Regents varsity volleyball has gotten off to a 3-1 start to the season! One of the highlights for head coach Monica Morgan has been having alumni come back to help as assistant coaches at both the middle school and varsity levels. Cathleen Hernandez (’21) is serving as an assistant middle school coach, while Sophia Mesa (’22) and Madeline Reed (homeschooled volleyball alumna) are helping at the varsity level, and Katie Dorgan (homeschooled alumna) assisted last year. “It is such a change to be coaching,” said Sophia Mesa. “Instead of trying to get on the court and fix a problem ourselves like we did as seniors last year, it is a very different challenge to help the players grow!”

This is Coach Morgan’s sixth year coaching volleyball at Regents. “When I came, we were still working to establish a volleyball culture at the school,” she noted. “Throughout the last five seasons and leading into this one, we have developed a culture where our players strive to play the highest level of volleyball with grace and a positive attitude while having fun together as a team. It’s incredibly rewarding to have alumni who want to stay involved and to pass on what they’ve learned.”
