In honor of Black History Month, all art classes in February are studying the art of Bisa Butler, a contemporary fiber artist who creates quilt portraits that celebrate Black life, both historical figures and everyday people. Ms. Butler is a young artist single-handedly creating a new genre of fine art quilting. As students reflect on her techniques, colors, subjects, and meaning, they are also given the opportunity to make their own work in her style (though using glue rather than actually sewing!).
