Valley Forge Day in Fifth Grade

Prussian general Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben arrived at George Washington’s encampment at Valley Forge in February 1778 and trained the soldiers to instill new confidence and discipline in the troops. He also made a surprise appearance in fifth grade last week to help the fifth grade enter into the hardships of the Continental Army in their living history day! In addition to eating hard tack and experiencing the icy conditions of the winter, students were assigned a different character from the war and gave extemporaneous speeches to rally the troops.
