Students Disassemble a Lawnmower Engine

Students in an upper school science class recently had the opportunity to take apart a lawnmower engine. They learned to determine the velocity associated with an engine's piston based on the connecting rod and crankshaft lengths. Students were also able to identify the parts inside the engine from the illustration on the board in order to solve a rate problem. Remarkably, they remembered the lengths associated with each of these parts as they were identifying them in the engine!
